How To Guide
Andrew Workman –
I recently had that moment when my wife decided she wanted us to have a 'pretty hive'. We have a number of Nationals, but she wanted the WBC. Having bought a Cedar British National and some frames and foundation from Easibee, I didn't hesitate to seek one on their website. Once again I am THRILLED with Easibee. The price for this hive was is so much lower than some elsewhere that anyone with no experience of Easibee would be forgiven for being a little wary, but that caution is unwarranted. Once again dispatch, delivery and the protective packaging was excellent. Three days after ordering, I had the kit with me. As before the parts themselves are nicely made, fit snuggly together and are numbered so that even the novice knows what is what. As before, the hive was very easy to build. I am a very competent DIY'er, but I don't see anyone having a problem building this hive. The instructions were not as clear as the ones provided with the National BUT a quick look at video in the "How To Guides" portion of this website soon remedied that. It was SO easy from then on. You will need hammer and nails, (I use 40mm ovals and 2.5mm rounds), a set square, a pencil and ruler, and about three to four hours. Once again the smell of the cedar is a real bonus. The optional porch is not included in the video, but the parts are there and can be added to the bottom riser if you wish (I did). The stand comes ready built and once constructed, the hive looks fantastic. I added a bit of Tung Oil for additional waterproofing and it really does look the part - the colour of the wood pops out. One thing I LOVE is the wooden Queen Excluder, which has round bamboo parts, which appear beautifully bee friendly - I've yet to see how robust it is but it appears well made and I am hopeful. I didn't hesitate to purchase another hive from Easibee, nor would I again and I can heartily recommend their products to anyone.
